Today would be very difficult to meet other classic sports that has been able to gather as many names of automotive history without wearing the insignia of a great brand. In short, the ASA 1000 GT Ferrari was born to be. But perhaps the good of Enzo proved to be too mundane and ordinary as to warrant a right and a great responsibility and burdens of the Prancing Horse.
The ASA 1000 GT was born in the early 60′s as a personal request from Enzo Ferrari to Giotto Bizzarrini and Bertone studio, which delegate to Giorgetto Giugiaro (then in Bertone) the design work of a grand tourer designed to attack the sporty little hot market where Alfa Romeo and Abarth reigned unchecked at the time. Enzo had the happy idea of developing a tiny four-cylinder engine of just 1 liter displacement and 100 hp . It seems that just as we are understanding better that this model could have a place alongside the tuned V12 of the time.
Believe it or not, the ASA 1000 GT since its infancy in 1961 and represented a major innovation that could even move to the current era. Was developing a real passion and sporting good performance but also very efficient and content , values ??that are booming five decades later.
When everyone was expecting the presentation of the Ferrari Mille, a beautiful Italian GT saw the light in the 1961 Turin Motor Show . But the dishonor of four-cylinder engine and a modest conception, in almost every way, made ??his presentation realizase outside the Ferrari stand. Its release would not occur until 1964 under a new brand born from a chemical company and the initials ASA of Autocostruzioni Societa per Azioni . But make no mistake, the final product was not cheap . Moreover, it was not so far from the Ferrari 250 at the time , so its production was quite discreet.
Definitely was equipped with an engine of 1,032 cm 3 cavallino never wore any , but nobody is aware that it was based on the Enzo engine which in turn was based on the V12 Ferrari. Homologaba 95 hp (later came to 105 hp). Think how many engines today and one liter or less of displacement achieved over 100 hp. There are too many. The above could reach 185 km / h , not bad for its mechanical base at the time.
Later the coupe would be accompanied by a convertible. Even on request only certain prototypes were developed with larger engines, four and six cylinder engine with more power and fiberglass body. After reaching a minimum production to receive approval for GT racing, the ASA 1000 would have time to even dabble in the competition.
It is noteworthy that with its exclusive prices now reaching a unit well preserved and restored ASA 1000 GT are clear of the millions that are usual in the auctions. Even the GT Spyder, of which were built just one handful of units are available for little more than 100,000 €.
