How it is made. Exterior styling aside, as usual clean and precise as Volkswagen insignia, the cockpit is very spacious, even behind, where can fit two people comfortably, too tall, while a third will inevitably ends up close. Behind, then, there is a huge trunk, with a capacity of 550 liters, regular, deep and with load retaining nets. Hatch for skis and reclining backrests make Toledo ideal for stowing luggage of a family. As for the materials, the bridge is of rigid plastic, well treated, but the overall effect is however not cheap. Console controls and instrumentation are shared with other models in the VW family, so well done and pleasant, the wheels of the jets with the different keys, such as those on the steering wheel of the car.
How it goes. We drove the 1.2 TSI and 1.6 TDI 85 HP, both with 5-speed gearbox (only with more powerful TSI is the sixth comfortable, ideal for motorway journeys). The Toledo, as we had written about the Rapid is a car easy and sincere, with some understeer security. The turbodiesel, of course, gives a boost quicker and powerful from low revs, but also with milledue less aggressive driving always with ease and quickness enough. The attitude is the usual compromise that you would expect from a car from family, somewhere between comfort, still good, and performance. Not makes you want to go fast, but well below the driver’s intentions. The ESP is standard of course (such as six airbags in the passenger compartment) and intervenes to correct understeer if you get too merrily cornering, as well as in emergency maneuvers in which you may lose the path. Safe car, ultimately, that may very well meet the various needs of motorists in everyday life.
